Big Sky
2 February 2014
Flockton, West Yorkshire
A big sky: clouds are piled up as they career towards us over the Pennines.
Branches of the ash trees are weighed down with tan-red bunches of ash keys.
A fallen ash tree looks as if it's been a casualty of the winds. It has fallen towards the east, suggesting that it came down in a strong westerly. It's been snapped off a foot or two from ground level.
The ground is saturated and perhaps this has led to the burst of activity from moles. Stretches of grassy roadside verges are peppered with mole hills.
Yesterday, as we returned from Newmillerdam, a buzzard was soaring by the Haigh motorway junction.
