Nest Platform

18 January 2014

Wakefield

We've yet to catch sight of the male peregrine that uses the spire of Wakefield cathedral (247 feet) as a look-out post. Its prey has included woodcock and golden plover. Birdwatchers assume that it hunts mainly after dark.

Recently a nesting platform was fixed to the parapet on the east side of the tower. The cafe at BHS is a good place to sit, perhaps with a hot chocolate, and look out for it but my view of the tower was sketched from the more quirky surroundings of the Marmalade Café.

Log Pile

Wood pigeons perch in the tops of the ivy-covered ash trees in the wood. Snowdrops are in bud by the mossy log pile.
