Twin Hatches

nuthatcheswood pigeonWe've suspected it for a while from the quickfire succession of visits but today we know for sure: there are two nuthatches visiting the feeder. I put a handful of sunflower hearts on the tray every time I fill up the feeders, hoping that the wood pigeon won't descend and fill its crop.

The two nuthatches don't seem to be behaving like a pair: they zip in alternately, one from the left, the other from the right but on one occassion Barbara spots them both on the tray together.

One always heads off to the wood while the other goes off in the direction of the large boundary oak, thirty yards away. Next Page
