Square Roots

IT’S A SMALL CHANGE but I think it’s going to work much better; I’m experimenting with planting in squares instead of the rows that I’ve always used.

trowelAll my beds are 4ft wide so I can reach halfway when planting but then I have to get up and start again at the other side, remembering to take trowel, kneeler, dibber, seeds etc with me.

Dividing the bed up into 2ft squares I can settle down and complete the job. I mark out the squares with garden canes held in place by thick wire loops.

When it comes to harvesting I think the square module will offer more possibilities for re-planting than a long thin row between other crops.
