WEST YORKSHIRE stretches from the Pennine moors to the Roman Ridge; from the Millstone Grit to the Magnesian Limestone with the sandstones and shales of the Coal Measures producing a gentler landscape in between. During the next year, I'm going put some effort into exploring all the habitats that the county has to offer from the rushy pastures of the Pennines in the west to the handful of flower-rich meadows, mainly nature reserves, which survive on the limestone escarpment that marks the eastern end of the county.
I've tried to come up with an image that sums up the natural history that you'd find when crossing the county.
