WHEN I finished my booklet on Monday I awarded myself the afternoon off and we walked up into Horbury to try a cafetière of French roast at the Black Olive coffee shop, which the deli launched in the adjoining shop at the weekend.
To celebrate getting all my work
done, I had thought about spending a day going off drawing for fun but instead
I launched into job that I’ve been planning for years: turning the tent-
Doing a fairly ambitious DIY project for the first time in years makes me feel as if I’m taking control of my own life instead of lurching from one project to another without having time for everyday activities.
I often draw buildings so I feel that working away in this little roof space gives me a bit more insight into how they fit together.

I felt as if I’d had a workout after knocking out the stud wall and cutting insulation panels to size to go between the joints. Some lengths were such a tight fit that I had to push them into place with my feet.
