Blue Tit TakeawayWild West Yorkshire nature diary, Wednesday 28th April 1999THE YOUNG RABBIT has adopted our garden and sits in the sun in the middle of the lawn at midday. The Robin returns, hovering by its nest in the old teapot. One Blue tit courtship feeds its mate. Since the two appear identical to me I am assuming it is the male's ability to act as provider that is being tested. He feeds her grains of rice from the bird table - the remains of a Chinese takeaway. In Pontefract, at the edge of a supermarket car park, a Blue butterfly flits over the shrubs. I guess that it is a Holly Blue, there have been a lot of reports of them. We've found black droppings on the back lawn. No sign of a Hedgehog on this moonlit night, but there are plenty of Frogs splashing in the pond as I walk down across the lawn.
