First Blossom
Wild West Yorkshire nature diary, Saturday 20th February 1999
FLOWERING ALMOND, Prunus dulcis, the earliest of suburban trees to flower is now spotted with shocking pink buds (this may be another species of Prunus, see next Monday's diary)..
The pair of Robins continue to show an interest in the garden shed, now totally enveloped in ivy. I've fixed a large old teapot behind the trellis. Many years ago I had success in getting robins to nest in an old aluminium kettle wedged into a thorn bush.
Deep purple primulas appear in front gardens, and our miniature daffodils are looking good, not so drawn and leggy as they were indoors in a pot last year.
Wood Pigeons perform their balancing act of mating high in an Ash tree.
