A Dialect Psalm

This is a dialect version of Psalm 137 that was, I believe, current in the West Riding of Yorkshire around 1930.

weeping willow
By t'waters of Babylon we set us selves down,
We set us selves down for to cry,
The strings of our harps were all ringing with t'wet,
So we hung 'em on trees for to dry.

This familiar psalm was also quoted in a song of around that time 'There is a Tavern in the Town,' which I remember my Dad teaching us on long car journeys.

He did also do a version, annotated at our request, of 'Minnie the Moucher'!
