Because it appears alongside Snowdrops and Crocuses, I tend to think of Winter Aconite as growing from a bulb but, as the glossy yellow flowers suggest, it is a member of the buttercup family.
The green ruff surrounding the stalkless flower is made up of sepals.
Like the Wild Cabbage that I mentioned yesterday, it has been suggested as a cure for snake bite.
