Now that it isn't ringed by vegetation, the pond has again become a centre of bird activity in the garden. House sparrows co me down to drink; blackbirds are able to bathe again. And the reduction in cover hasn't put off the frogs; they still make their way in and out of the pond at various times of the day.
House martins swoop against the evening sky. By the size of the flock I'd say that there now appear to be as many as in previous years. Earlier this spring we had suspected a decline in numbers.
