As I stand in the queue at Marks and Spencer, I'm aware of the cathedral bell tolling. Funny, I've never realised that you could hear its mellow tones in here but it is just across the precinct.

It's twelve noon. The staff stop what they're doing, the lights are switched to dim, even the escalators are turned off and we all stand in silence for three minutes, remembering the victims of the tsunami. I'm glad I was here. I'd have been silent at home of course, but then I usually am silent. It's quite moving to see a busy store suddenly pause and think for a while.

robotI, Robot

I've got a cold so, as I'm feeling too bunged up for anything more demanding, this afternoon I settle down to construct a robot - this is yet another Bryce tutorial, this time by Simon Danaher, from the first issue of 3D World.

With this character, I feel that I've mastered the basics of Bryce 4; I'm up to speed on grouping, positioning, rotating and saving objects, though I still want to have a dabble with the animation settings.

I especially like Danaher's neat trick of using' multi-replicate' to produce that array of barrels for the gun. As he says, every robot needs a weapon of destruction but this one doesn't make a roasted vegetable pasta with side salad.

So I won't be replacing Barbara in the foreseeable future. Next Page
