Some stupid thing: perhaps leaving a disk in the floppy drive didn't help. Whatever it was, here I am, sitting waiting for the machine to download a Windows Service pack.

At least there's a view to draw; This is the lower end of Coxley Woods, seen through my main studio window at the back of the house. That's my old computer sitting on the desk.

A new pen can shake up your drawing a bit so I decided that - with a name like that - I'd try both a brown and a black in this alcohol-based permanent ink Artist Sketching Pen (see 23rd May) when I saw them in the Picturecraft art shop in Holt.

There is the problem that the ink goes right through the page in my small orange sketchbook, leaving a ghost, reversed image on the other side but I can see a line quality that isn't quite like any other pen I use.

Or is it the effect of those alcohol fumes that's making me more relaxed, more sketchy, as I go on?

Ah! - the familiar Microsoft XP fanfare: it's finished installing at last!

Despite all this extra work on the computers at least we managed to get out briefly this afternoon and bought tomatoes, peppers and hanging basket flowers which we potted up in peat-free compost. Next Page
