Snow Melting

Richard Bell’s Wild West Yorkshire nature diary, Saturday, 7th February 2009

THIS LITTLE sketch of snow melting on a roof opposite the fish & chip restaurant is the first I’ve done for several weeks. I’ve done plenty of illustrations during that time but it felt as if I was on holiday to start a sketch with no other purpose in mind.

The snow has been lying for a week now; a contrast to most years when it lasts for only a couple of days or so.

Barbara dug up some leeks in the snow yesterday but other than that there’s nothing ready for harvest although garlic and Japanese onions are coming on steadily. This winter cabbage is growing in a pot on my built-in desk below the large window in my studio.
