Richard Bell’s Wild West Yorkshire nature diary, Sunday, 10th January 2010

THE SNOW has been with us for a week now but it’s still slightly unbelievable to look out of the window and see the transformed landscape. When Barbara photographed these icicles this morning she was aware of a larger one – 18 inches long – hanging over her from the gutter like a sword of Damocles.
The last snowfall we had, yesterday morning, was powder and as easy to sweep away as to scrape. We’ve had only wet flakes and sleety rain since then.
I’ve spent the weekend working on my booklet but, as so often happens when you’re sailing along nicely, a software problem has come along to distract me.
It looks as if, so far, there’s no solution so I’ll just have to muddle through.
