Richard Bell's Nature Diary, 7th October, 1998, Calder valley, West Yorkshire
Jays were flying out of the wood, to eat (and cache) the acorns of the boundary oak across the meadow.
Apologies for the animation, the idea is that the wood in the background is panning past, in classic Tom and Jerry chase fashion, not bobbing up and down like animated broccoli. If you come back to this diary later you might see some improvement. It is many years since I worked on the cartoon of Watership Down and then I specialised in static details of hedgerows and one of the backgrounds for one of the rabbit warrens.
These simple gif animations do make me look at nature with a fresh eye, looking for some repeated movement that I could attempt to portray. The swirling eddies of pollution foam on the River Calder would make a challenging subject.
