Richard Bell's Nature Diary, Thursday, 8th October 1998, Wakefield
Kestrel over the meadow. |
Chased by a Blue Tit as it moved off. |
Grey Squirrel making from wood to nettle patch, perhaps to cache acorns. |
Hoverflies on dandelions on the Balk, the striped pattern resembles a tribal mask. . |
Wakefield Bat Group has taken in a pipistrelle, with serious injuries, which were probably inflicted by a cat. It could be the Nathusius Pipistrelle, a continental species recorded in Britain only since the recent increase of interest in bats. It has thicker fur than our common Pipistrelle and a hairy tail end, but only close examination of its teeth will prove its identity for sure. |
