The two Welsh ponies in the field, now wearing their horse blankets, stand with their backs to the cool wind.
It's a grey working day and, during one of the few moments when I briefly look out of the window at the houses across the road two mute swans appear flying over the rooftops. Earlier I'd seen the local sparrowhawk on its regular rounds following more or less the same flight path.
