It's a frosty morning with mist in the valley. Two reed buntings perch amongst the rushes on the marshy field then fly to a bush by the towpath. They've been regular here for years.
While watching them through binoculars I briefly spot a snipe dropping down into the rushes. We see snipe only occasionally but I suspect that they're often there, keeping down out of sight, probing the soft mud amongst the rushes.
