We're experimenting with growing salad leaves in pots on the patio. When making a salad it's easy to step out and gather a handful of leaves to throw in.
We sowed a curly leaved lettuce which was supposed to grow in both red and green varieties. There's no sign of any red yet.
Rocket has a peppery taste, similar to watercress. Some small creature, probably a flea beetle, has nibbled a few pinhead-sized holes in the leaves. I know we could buy unblemished salad leaves from the supermarket, but who knows what chemicals might have been used to keep them pest-free.
