While driving along the Strines road, we see a mallard leading a dozen small duckling into the heather on the moor. It's miles from water here! Hope they'll be OK.

lapwingWe also keep seeing a lapwing by the roadside. Good that they're nesting as, in our tidied up countryside, lapwing numbers have been declining. Upland pastures and moorland edge might be one of the places they're hanging on.

I draw a sycamore this morning at Fairholmes and in the afternoon the pile of logs lying on the ground nearby, the result of lopping back this old pollarded tree. Next Page
