AFTER THREE DAYS of rain, the River Calder is lapping around the sycamores and ashes on the embankment by the bridge. The grassy bar of silt opposite is entirely underwater.
Two Mallard drakes bathe in the backwater. They bob their tails underwater then dip their breasts as they fan their wings to give themselves a shower bath.
