redwings by the canal bridgeblack bryony redwings THERE ARE PLENTY of Magpies and Redwings in the valley. But the Fieldfares aren't about at the moment. They stayed only a short while then moved on.

hazel catkinsfield maple The leaves of Black Bryony have died back but the red berries now from a swag draped over the hedge. Field Maple still holds onto most of its, now, yellow leaves. Hazel has hung onto only a few leaves but next year's catkins are already there on the twigs, pale green, tight shut, like little bell-pulls.
