WHITE-TAIL, the Blackbird that nested in our hedge, is disputing with two female (or juvenile) blackbirds in the Golden Hornet crab apple. We've had our first hard frost of the autumn. We are in an area of high pressure; a clear sky overnight is followed by a white frosting on the lawn.
There is no mist so it soon warms up. In the afternoon sunshine a Red Admiral feeds on a Michaelmas Daisy. Michaelmas Day was last Wednesday, the 29th September. There are still a few Chives in flower in the herb bed, a hoverfly visits them.
Sunlight glints on the dark furrows of ploughed fields on the valley side.
