A GREATER SPOTTED WOODPECKER perches for a few moments on the post below the bird table. They're regular visitors to the peanut feeders at our neighbours houses at the edge of the wood, but we rarely see them in our garden.
We once tried to encourage them to visit by hanging up a pice of wood with holes drilled in it with a mixture of lard and bird seed plastered into the cavities.
A Kestrel perches on a lofty lamppost, surveying the motorway.
