'I couldn't sketch on a bus,' says Danny, 'I'd get car sick.'

When I get on the shuttle bus back to Manchester Piccadilly I head for the front seat on the upper deck and, piecing together fragments of trees, fences and vehicles as we approach the city centre, I make up a kind of jigsaw impression of the journey.

Earlier, on our way to the airport, I'd sketched unrelated details each time the bus pulled up at traffic lights.

At last, on the journey home, I've time to draw from platform 13, Manchester Piccadilly, which is on rooftop level with the Star and Garter pub on Fairfield Street, as I wait for the Dewsbury train. Next Page
